The Great Sun Nation is a proud chapter of the Native Sons and Daughters Programs, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to strengthening the bond between parents and their children through shared experiences and lifelong memories.
Based in South Florida, The Great Sun Nation brings fathers and their children together for unforgettable adventures, lasting friendships, and plenty of fun. Our signature events are weekend camping trips across Florida during the cooler months, from October through April (excluding December).
The Nation is organized into multiple Tribes, each led by a Chief. Tribes typically comprise of members from a specific local area. Nation leaders and Chiefs meet monthly to plan events and facilitate communication and administration of the Nation.
Camping Trips
Every campout is fully planned, with campsites, group meals, and organized activities. Whether you’re roasting marshmallows around the campfire, exploring the outdoors, or joining in friendly competitions, every trip offers the perfect mix of one-on-one time with your child and opportunities for the whole family to build new friendships.
Trips are generally planned for Friday-Sunday during the cooler months of the year, from October through April (excluding December). Locations may vary each year, but have included campgrounds such as Westgate River Ranch, Circle F Dude Ranch, Peace River Campground, and more. Each campout is organized by one of our Longhouse leaders and cooking & cleaning responsibilities are shared among all fathers.
Flexibility is a major benefit of joining The Great Sun Nation. Reasonable annual dues are required to be an active member to cover insurance and administration fees, and you have the flexibility to attend as many campouts as you want with no obligations. Costs for each campout vary depending on the venue and planned activities, but are typically very affordable.
